Hi folks, I'm Shazzy Fisher and I'm 6ft tall, weigh 41.5 stone and take a size 10 shoe - that should make you 'twenty-stoners' feel you've only half my problem! I work as an associate with Dianne and Laura the owners of The Big Bloomers Company and its affiliate company The Bariatric Shop.. My role is to help people decide what size they need to buy to be perfectly comfortable in their knickers and all of the other beautifully made garments that we have for you here on the website. A couple of years ago, I bought fro m The Big Bloomers Companythe first pair of comfortable knickers I've had in years and when I contacted Dianne and Laura to ask if they were going to make them in black (which they have now done) they invited me on board on the basis that big people can relate to me - I known their problems, I feel their pain..... I understand what its like to walk into a shop and know that other people are quietly - and sometimes not even quietly, shocked or intrigued at my size. You can imagine how thrilled I was to have a platform of my own, somewhere where I could talk to other people. So I am hoping that you will find this page of help and interest and if you have anything you want to say about any of our products, or maybe you have a particular diet that is working for you, (or you've tried one and it was a disaster!) please write to me by clicking on the tab at the top of the page. Any letters published will win for the writer a pair of our Big Bloomers knickers from either our Bariatric or our Big Bloomers range- size and colour your choice. Hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers for now, Shazzy :)
Fat People Are More Efficient
This is Laura's theory about overweight people and whilst it doesn't help you to lose weight, it is quite a comfort because Laura reckons that we overweight people are, as far as nature in concerned, functioning better than our stick-thin cousins. Takes a bit of swallowing, doesn't it - but read on, all will be revealed.Laura believes that when we evolved, food wasn't all that easy to come by and so, an efficient body stored as much goodness (fat) from whatever food we early human's came across, to tide us over a bad patch when there were no berries to eat and no game to catch. Those who stored most fat lived longest when food ran short, living off the reserves spread about their body. Those whose metabolism worked overtime not allowing them to take every last iota of goodness and nutrient from whatever they'd been living on (keeping them thin) faded away when the going got tough. So, Laura reckons, a fat body is an efficient body and a thin body is inefficient. There, now.... told you it wouldn't help you get thin, but its a good conversation piece, don't you agree! If any of you have any theories about why some people stay fat and you'd like to share it, I'd love to hear from you, so click on the link below to drop me a line and I will send a pair of our Big Bloomers own manufacture 100% cotton knickers to anyone whose email is published. So, along with your article, let me have your knickers size - or your hip measurment.
Who needs breakfast
Here's a theory that flies in the face of convention - If any of you try it, do write and let me know how you get on - there's a pair of Big Bloomers knickers in it for you! Shazzy :)
Breakfast! Who says its good for you? I haven’t ever come across a diet that doesn’t encourage us to start the day with breakfast. However, I don’t particularly want to eat at seven thirty in the morning and I know lots of other people who can’t face food first thing. Although neither I nor my three children carry much weight, this is because they have all inherited the 'thin gene' from their father (fortunate, or what!) and in my case, I seem to have strong enough will power to shun anything nice - no biscuits, no cakes, no sweets, no chocolate, no jam.The fact that my children don't have to suffer these deprivations, in my opinion shows that weight gain is so incredibly down to the genes we've inherited and those three kids simply don't have a 'sweet tooth' between them. Also, learning from some of the people I've met at Weight Watchers and Slimmers World that even keeping a strictly ‘nothing nice in the pantry’ regime has NOT helped keep the weight off – I have given the matter of‘why are some of us fat?’ much thought and I’ve come up with a theory.
When we swung down out of the trees (you have to believe we share our prehistory with the apes to accept this theory) we would have spent much of our waking hours hungry and wandering about in search of food. We would have eaten whatever we found lying about because we would not have had any tools or the fleetness of foot to catch animals – so I guess our diet consisted of slugs, grubs, berries and edible roots. Nature has programmed us to keep the human race going by making sure that everything that is necessary to our survival is enjoyable. Sex and eating, both very necessary for the continuance of the race are about top of the list of really nice things to do. So, as food would have been scarce and hard to come by back at the dawn of the species, I reckon we were programmed in such a way that once we awoke, we would start rooting about for food and once we had found our first cluster of berries (or slug) of the day, a signal was sent to our brain to say ‘right, you are awake now and you have found food, so get it into your mouth before someone else comes along and tries to take it off you and then MOVE ON and find some more’ this urgent, almost killer signal would have been triggered by the chomping of the food, the message being ‘awake and in food gathering mode’……… and it would need to be an enormously strong signal because it had got to keep us searching for food throughout the day whatever the weather because, without food, the species would die out – an unsuccessful outcome as far as nature is concerned. If this theory is correct, what it means is that although we no longer have to expend energy to obtain food, we still, naturally, go into ‘search for fodder’ mode as soon as we BREAK THE FAST. However, instead of eating the equivalent of a handful of berries and a few slugs, we’ll eat whatever we like without expending any effort to acquire it and we’ll also eat a far higher quantity than we need to sustain life….. and that appears to me to be the problem. We are programmed in such a way that once we have BROKEN THE FAST we will continue to think about our next meal until we go to sleep. So, folks, I don’t do breakfast! Instead, I trick my body into thinking that it hasn’t yet woken up so it doesn’t need to worry about food. I drink plenty, including a mug of milky coffee at about 11 o clock and this stops me feeling hungry. It seems that because there’s no chewing mechanism with drinking, it doesn’t send out the same ‘forage for food’ message. I happily work, running the Big Bloomers office and warehouse till between two o clock and five o clock without needing to eat. This and the fact that there’s never anything nice to snack on in my house or at Big Bloomers has maintained my weight at ‘normal’ for my height and age.I am sure that the diet boffins will decry this idea and say that going without breakfast is bad for you. All I can say, folks, is give it a try, if it works for you and you don’t feel crabby and bad tempered because you are hungry, then fine – what have you got to loose except some excess weight that you’ve been maintaining by eating a breakfast.
